Hello and happy Tuesday! Today I wanted to share a quick post about this really cute idea.
I made this tiny Mayflower from half a walnut shell. Breaking the shell exactly in half was quite a challenge, as you can see... If anyone knows a good way to cut a walnut shell in half without breaking a half dozen please let me know:) I tried a knife. That worked pretty well. I inserted the knife into the top of the walnut and then twisted it. Sometimes I was successful and broke the shell right in half. Sometimes I just made a huge mess...
I used blue play dough to attach the shell to the blue cardstock. Now it looks like it is floating in the water. Then I inserted brown play dough in the shell. I glued two pieces of white cardstock together and inserted a small toothpick to hold up the "sail". The toothpick was placed into the brown play dough.
I made a few of these with my kids. This craft is easy enough that preschoolers can create there own. I thought they would make really cute place settings. I had the thought that guests names can be written on the sail or the blue paper.
And that's it! Hope you all have a very happy Thanksgiving.

Why don't you try using a 3" or 4" wide spackle or Joint Knife. You can find these at Home Depot or any hardware store. They have a thin enough blade, and you could just gentle hammer it, prying open the walnut and even cutting it in half. I would place the nut on a mouse pad or a thin piece of foam to keep it in place.
