TSN - Part 2 (Mini-tutorial)

Good morning friends!!  Ok...yesterday I showed you a card I created using Autumn Leave's Stampology (you can scroll down the page if you want to learn more about this card).  That was the first time that stamp set saw ink.  The little house with the heart in the middle is just darling.  I realized that that card I made was quite masculine, so I think I will save it for my DH.

Today I am going to show you how I created the heart out of designer paper.  I just thought the house needed a little more color and interest.

1.  I started by stamping my image on white cardstock.  I chose to use StazOn black ink because it gave an even coverage. Then I cut out the image.

2.  Then I used a black marker (I used Stampin' Up) to just color around the edges of the heart on the stamp.

3.  I chose a word on the designer paper and then centered it in the heart.  This was easily accomplished because the stamp and block I used was clear.  If you happen to have a stamp that is not, you can just use a paper that has random images.

4.  I carefully cut out the stamped heart.  I didn't want any of the black showing so I made sure I cut out right on the line.

5.  I used dimensionals to pop the heart out a bit on the paper.

And this is the finished product.  I just had to make a new card, you know:)

TSN - Stamps Meet Ink

Good morning!! Ok...I have decided to make my "try something new" (TSN) theme a weekly thing.  This way I can keep up with my new year's resolution to try new things.  Not just stamping and paper crafting, but in all parts of my life. 

This week my something new is to use a stamp set that I bought a while ago, but has not met ink yet.  The set is from Stampology.  I bought it to go with a scrapbook I am working on. I am making the scrapbook for a friend of mine.  The book will just have a general family theme so that they can put whatever pictures they want in it. 

 
When I saw the adorable house with the heart in the middle I immediately thought of Valentine's Day (did I mention that is one of my favorite holidays).  I kept the card pretty simple.  I embossed the lines using my handcutter and a stylist.  I used StazOn ink to stamp the house on white paper.  I tried using SU! basic black ink, but it just didn't have the even coverage like the StazOn. Stay tuned tomorrow for a mini-tutorial on how I made the heart in the center of the house.  I added brads and the "LOVE" stamp on the bottom.  I love how it looks handwritten.  My handwriting is not that cool looking (LOL).

Caardvarks Challenge Newbie

Good morning fellow stampers.  I happened upon a  blog I haven't visited before.  Caardvarks is having an awesome challenge!!  I just had to try it out.

The sketch has light lines coming down from top to bottom.  I decided to add an iridescent glitter to the designer paper on my card to match the lines on the sketch.  I hope you can see it alright. If not you can click on the image to make it larger.

4x4 Envelope Tutorial

Good morning!  TGIF!!  Yesterday was the second snow day of the school year.  I loved it!  Temps got down to below -20 degrees in the valley we live in.  That means it is too cold for school.  The kids and I had a great day off.  We watched movies, made cupcakes and colored.  My oldest daughter invited a friend over.  They watched NCIS all day long! 

Anyway, Wednesday I posted a 4x4 card using the TESC#96 challenge.  You can check out the card and sketch here.  Now, what if you made a 4x4 card and you don't have an envelope on hand?  What do you do?  You make one!!  It's really pretty simple.

 
 Use a notecard size envelope measuring 5-3/4 by 4-3/8.  Seal the empty envelope.

Then place the sealed envelope on a hand cutter. Cut your envelope so that it is 4-3/8 by 4-3/8 square. 

 
Create a flap by cutting a piece of designer paper (I used K&Company) 4-3/8 x 2-3/4.

I chose to use my scalloped punch to scallop the designer paper that would fold over and seal the envelope.

Determine how large you would want your flap.  Glue the designer paper inside the back of the envelope. Fold over to create your flap.

Then you may choose to decorate or address the other side. I used the vintage labels stamp set from PTI and a little heart from Gel-a-tins.  The ink I used was Melon Mambo from SU.

This is so simple and makes a great personalized envelope that matches your card.  Great for Valentine's Day!!

Trying Something New - TESC#96

Hey and Hello!!  Guess what?  Today is my birthday!!  I just got the most darling card from my mother-in-law.  That totally made my day:)  She is the sweetest in the whole, wide WORLD!!

I realize I am a little late this week.  I try real hard to get my posts up by Tuesday...just didn't happen.  I had a two week break with my kids for Christmas and New Years.  Apparently my brain is still on that break:)  Anyhow, I hope you all had a fabulous holiday.  We stayed up 'till midnight New Year's Eve with the kids.  We played Rock Band on the Wii, and tried to finish a puzzle.  At midnight we all toasted the new year.  I have a feeling it is going to be fab!! My hubby took me out on the town New Year's Day.  I FINALLY saw the movie New Moon. Then he actually took me scrapbook shopping!!!! (wow!) It was great!

Ok...enough chit chat.  Lets get to business.  So, I made a new year's resolution that I was going to try something new.  Well I have taken this resolution seriously (looking at serious as I can now).  I have a habit of getting stuck in a rut.  Once I find something I like I stick with it.  But this year I really want to spread my wings and see and feel everything.  I think I am going through my midlife crisis or something.  Who knows:) 

So today I wanted to share my "something new".  I did stick with a challenge that I had tried before.  It is the Taylored Expressions sketch challenge #96.  I love her sketches and her blog.  But, check this out! Of all the years I have been papercrafting, I have always used some kind of stamp on my cards.  So this time I challenged myself to make the card with the sketch and omit any stamps.  Ok, not the most exciting "something new", but I am starting small.  Baby steps...baby steps.

I decided to make a couple adorable valentine's cards.  I absolutely LOVE Valentine's Day.  The pink, the hearts, the roses, the (sigh...) LOVE. 

The details:  First, the dimensions of these little note cards are 4x4.  The card base is made from Melon Mambo textured cardstock (SU!).  The designer paper and the image on both cards are from K&Company.  I got this awesome 12x12 designer paper that had the most adorable sayings and images on it from K&Company.  I simply cut them out, matted it on Whisper White cardstock and Melon Mambo cardstock.  I added matching ribbon from SU! and the buttons are from my stash. 

I used my piercing tool and a hand made stencil to make the half circle.  I simply used one side of an empty ribbon spool.  I took a marker and put a line every quarter inch around the circle. 

Then I placed the stencil where I want it on the card.  Then I used my piercing tool to punch where the lines are.

Welcome to 2010!!! It's Going To Be FABULOUS!

I hope you all had a fabulous holiday!  The hubby, kids and I just spent the holiday at home.  It snowed on Christmas Day.  It was such a cozy, sweet day.  We must have been really good over the year.  Santa gave the entire family a Wii.  Wow! We really had fun with that.

 

I'd like to say thanks to all those who visited my blog over the past weeks and months. And super big thanks for all those sweet comments. I'm new at this whole blogging thing and I am greatful you took the time to visit.:)

 

I have decided that I would start of this new year organizing my stamp room.  I used to be a Stampin' Up demonstrator and managed to gather many stamp sets.  However, I don't use a good majority of them anymore.  I have really opened up my mind and I want to try different company's products.  I hope over the next year I will really have a variety of products to choose from in my stamp room.  I have high hopes for this next year.  So many things I want to try...So many things I want to explore. ..So many things that are new to me.  I hope to share them all right here and I hope you will join me on my journey.

 

I was reading my Jan/Feb Papercrafts magazine one day and something really stood out at me.  The article talked about stepping out of our comfort zone.  What was meant by that was to try something new this upcoming year.  I thought that was a great idea.  So this year I am really going to try something new when I create.  I may fail miserably. (but looking on the bright side and looking for the light) I may not.  Anyway, I thought this is a great goal for all crafters.  Just something to think about:)
