SHOW~N~TELL halloween banner and spiders

Today's Show~n~tell is brought to you by my children...

 

We had a type of lazy weekend, but we were also feeling quite creative and ready for Halloween.  So the children got together and created this banner...

 

I cut the orange, green, purple, and black cardstock into 3 inch triangles.  They each decorated them.  Then we just punched holes in the top corners and attached the triangles to black and white gingham ribbon.

Then my 9 year old made the spiders from black yarn and black pipe cleaners.  We found a tutorial for these spiders at eighteen25.  You can check out the tutorial by clicking HERE.

DOWLOAD OF THE WEEK ~ aaargh!!

 

My little ones love pirates.  So when I saw these adorable little pirate sails at Cottage-Industrialist.com I just had to print them out. 

 

These little sails are originally intended for cupcakes (they coordinate with cute little cupcake wrappers), but I wanted to use them with deviled eggs.  My kids call deviled eggs *egg boats*...soooooo this was perfect!!  I even had to create a little ocean scene for the photo (tee-hee).

 

You can even get a whole line of pirate themed party decorations at Cottage-Industrialist.  Sooo cute!!

 

BTW... This will be the last week I do the DOWNLOAD OF THE WEEK.  I thought I would have more access to downloads, but I don't.  I am still going to post on Wednesday, though.  I choose to just post whatever instead of limiting myself to downloadable projects.  So now you'll never know what I will feature on Wednesday!! More fun I think!

{SHOW~N~TELL} pinwheel flower

 

Today I wanted to share a simple pinwheel card.  I was inspired by an invitation that was given to me a while back.  On the invitation there was a little, digital pinwheel.  It looked like it was made from piecing little triangles into a shape of a flower.  I thought this was perfect for little scraps.

 

 

To make the pinwheel:

1. Cut paper into squares (you can choose how big or small you want the pinwheel...the bigger the squares the bigger the pinwheel).
2. Then cut the squares diagonally to create triangles.  I chose to use two coordinating papers.  I used one as a shadow to the main image.
3. Glue the triangles together with the points together on the bottom and the background paper showing a little on the top.
4. Then adhere the triangle in a circle.  Make sure they are all facing the same direction.
5. Add a button or brad in the middle.
6. I also added a green ribbon stem along with ribbon leaves and a button in the middle.  So mine looks more like a flower.

Feel free to use your imagination.  That's what makes this little technique so fun!!

Stamps:  Warm Words (SU!)

Ink:  StazOn black

Accessories:  Buttons (Basic Grey, SU!), Certainly Celery ribbon, natural embroidery thread

FLASHBACK FRIDAY ~ embellish magazine challenge

 

I decided to get out my Bundle of Joy stamp set (from Stamin' up!) for this week's Flashback Friday.

 

I orginally bought this stamp set two years ago to use for my daughter's baby announcements.  I have used it from time to time, but this particular image has only seen ink once!  I felt it was time to use it again.

 

I went on a little search looking for a new challenge to try.  I found one at Embellish Magazine's challenge blog.  I thought the colors were perfect for the stamp...very soft.  The challenge was to use dark green, light green, kraft and yellow.  Then as an addition I was challenged to use the paper piecing technique. So I paper pieced the bear.  A polka dotted bear seems perfect to me:)   I love this technique but I don't use it often enough. I even added a bit of paper piercing for fun.  

The details:

Paper:  Kraft, Certainly Celery cardstock (SU!); designer paper from Basic Grey

Stamps:  Bundle of Joy, Teeny Tiny Wishes (SU!)

Ink: StazOn black, Certainly Celery (SU!)

Accessories:  Die from Papertrey Ink, So Saffron Ribbon (SU!),  Buttons (PTI), Embroidery thread

Tools:  Die machine, dimensional tape, adhesive, paper piercer, scissors

DOWNLOAD OF THE WEEK

Today you can find me in the kitchen canning.  It is peach season and I am busy canning a HUGE box of peaches for winter.  My whole family loves canned peaches.  Especially the ones we have canned ourselves.

 

So today's download was going to be labels for my bottles.  Unfortunately my printer is having issues (it's just being naughty!!).  So I can not print out anything...at...all!  I am soooo bumbed.

 

However, I will give you the link to the website I found that has the best selection of canning labels I have found so far.  It is called Sweet Preservation.  And you can find the canning labels by clicking here.  The site is geared directly for preserving fruit.  Perfect!  You can even find recipes for preserves and canning fruit.  It's oh so great for this time of year.

SHOW~N~TELL monday

Today's Show~n~Tell is yet another sketch from Clean and Simple Stamping.  I love their sketches because they are so easy.  I feel I can do so much with them.

And this is what I did with it...

 

I have been waiting for the chance to play with my new stamp set Falling Leaves from PTI.  I felt this was the perfect time....I love the sentiments that go with the stamp set.  Especially this one on my card.

Supplies:

Really Rust, White, And Chocolate Chip cardstock (SU!)

Designer series paper

Falling Leaves stamp set (PTI)

Chocolate Chip pigment ink (SU!), Versamark ink

 Natural twine

Sage Shadow, Really Rust, and More Mustard markers (SU!)

Scalloped edge punch

Dimensional tape

adhesive

scissors

*SU! = Stampin' Up!  *PTI = Papertrey Ink

Instructions:

 

1. Fold Really Rust cardstock into shape of a card.
2. Stamp leaves with versamark onto Really Rust cardstock
3. Cut a 3 x 4 1/4 piece of white cardstock.
4. Cut two pieces of 3/4 x 3 inch designer paper.
5. Adhere designer paper onto white cardstock.
6. Stamp branches image with Chocolate Chip ink.
7. Use markers to color directly on the leaves stamp.  Huff and stamp image.
8. Distress edges.
9. Punch scalloped edges with chocolate chip paper.  Adhere onto white cardstock.
10. Stamp sentiment onto Really Rust cardstock. Cut out around sentiment and distress edges.
11. Wrap twine around main image. 
12. Adhere sentiment with dimensional tape.  Tie a knot with twine.

 

 

 

FLASHBACK FRIDAY

A few years back I attended my first Stampin' Up stamp club.  A friend of mine, Jessica, was hosting it.  I had a huge blast and shortly after I became a demonstrator.  I am not a demonstrator anymore and I have since moved so I cannot attend my friends stamp clubs anymore.  I am simply too far away...I really miss them.

 

So today I was searching for something old to share.  I looked through my stamps, paper, accessories...nothing was moving my mojo.  So I started looking through past cards I have made.  Bingo!!  I found this one...

 

This was one of my first cards I made at my friend's stamp camp years ago.  I made some mistakes and it just isn't as *clean* as I like to create today, but I was learning.  This was a card that had many firsts for me.  My first time embossing (I was intimidated before and afraid to do it.  My friend helped me overcome my fear).  My first time using the shaving cream technique.  That was messy, but totally fun!

 

I can't remember the stamp set we used.  I know Stampin' Up retired it a few years back.  The colors for the shaving cream technique were from the Earth Elements color group...but I am not sure the colors exactly.  So I really can't tell you the details of this card.  But I think I am going to CASE it in the near future...so stay tuned for those details.

I am just lovin' all the adorable boxes that are easy to download and create.  Shala sure makes packaging a sinch!

 

But I really fell in love with this recipe folder she created about a year ago...

 

I think it makes a super cute gift.  And it took minute to print, cut out and fold.  Actually writing the recipes took longer than cutting and creating the folder.

 

I printed the folder and cards out on a cream colored cardstock.  I thought the off-white color would create a vintage look to it.

SHOW~N~TELL monday

Monday was a holiday in the states.  That meant no school or work.  So the holiday really threw me off schedule.  That's why I am posting the Show~n~Tell today instead of Monday.  But late is better than not at all:)

 

Today's Show~n~tell is a card I created using the FTL106.  Here is the layout...

 

Here is my take on it...

 

And this is how I made it...

 

Supplies:

Bashful Blue (SU!), Read Red (SU!) and White cardstock

Up, Up and Away stamp set (PTI)

StazOn black ink, Whisper White craft ink (SU!)

Bookmark die from PTI

Various markers

Blender Pen

White gel pen

Dimensional tape

Adhesive

Scissors

*SU! stands for Stampin Up!; PTI stands for Papertrey Ink

 

Instructions:

1. Cut Bashful Blue cardstock to 5 1/2 x 4 1/4.  Fold over to create card.
2. Use Whisper White craft ink to stamp clouds onto blue cardstock.
3. Die cut Read Red cardstock using bookmark die.  Cut off top portion.  Glue to card.
4. Use white gel pen to faux stitch the edge.
5. Stamp hot air balloons onto white paper using black ink.  Color.  Blend. Cut.
6. Adhere to card using dimensional tape.

Flashback Friday

Ok...today's project incorporated a little old and a little new.  Well, technically the stamp set Tart 'n Tangy (From SU!) isn't really that old.  But it has been sitting on my shelf collecting dust for quite some time. 

 

Keeping with the back to school theme for the week I have taken the apple image and created a *thank you* card set for a teacher.  Now our teacher has ready-made thank yous for all those little gifts they may receive...or they can use it to say *thank you* to all those parent volunteers throughout the school year.

I used a back to basics technique for coloring the apple...

 
 
I used waterbased markers to color on the rubber stamp itself.  Then I gave the stamp a little huff to moisten it.  Then it stamped beautifully.

 

I made a little box to keep the cards handy and organized.  Inside the box are 5 4x4 cards and envelopes.  If you would like to make the box,   Lisa from LMDStampin has a great video tutorial.  You can check it out HERE .

 
 
I just used decorative paper that was in my stash for years and years as the base and clear acetate for the top.  I simply sized the top and little smaller than the bottom.  Then they fit together like a glove.
