Our Christmas tree is full of ornaments that have been created by either my mother, me or the children. Every time we place an ornament on the tree we reflect on when it was made and where we were in our lives. Our tree is not only a *Christmas Tree* but a tree of memories. And each year we try to add to it by creating more ornaments...and memories.
I would like to feature just a few of the ornaments that dazzle our tree each year. The ornaments I chose here are ones that are really easy to create. And they make the tree look quite vintage.
These little pine cone ball ornaments were made by me a few years back at a craft even at my church. It was quite fun and I enjoyed creating along with my friends. We laughed and talked for hours.
I recently found a great tutorial on how to make these ornaments at The Hybrid Chick. The ones she makes are oblong, not circular like mine. I think she used a Styrofoam egg instead of a ball like mine.
These little ornament boxes were made by my mother when I was a little girl. Wow! They have lasted quite a while. They are simply made from little cardboard boxes that have been flattened, coated with adhesive and fabric glued to them. Then the fabric is trimmed off. Fold the box back up with the fabric glued to it and add gold cording to hang it. Then add a box. I cute little box present hung on the tree. We have used these in past Christmas's to hold small things like money or clues to a bigger present.
These little wooden block ornaments are also made by my mom. She simply found the little wood blocks at a toy store or craft store, placed a metal hook that screwed in the top, gold cording and a contrasting ribbon bow. You could make lots of these in just a short amount of time.
These little mini-wreaths were made by my children. This is also so easy. Take a wring from a juice or milk bottle top. Wrap green Chenille Stems around and around it. Then add a tiny toy or Poinsettia with a dot of glue. You can add a bit of gold cording to hang them from the tree. But my children like to just place them in little nooks of the branches.
This little birdhouse ornament was made by me. I found a bag of wooden, unfinished birdhouses at my local craft store. I brought them home, painted them different colors, added white glitter for snow, screwed in a hook on the top, added ribbon and there you have it!! A little ornament for the tree.
Adding handmade ornaments to the tree every year is such a dear tradition to me. It just warms my heart when I look back at where I have been and how far we all have come. I can sit and stare at my tree for hours just soaking in the memories.
